Flying Dolphin 1973

Look at this one, this is how the Flying Dolphins looked 26 years ago. Is it really a hydrofoil?

Olympiakos

Olympiakos, the boys from Piraeus, Greece's equivalent of Hammarby? I think this photo is late 60's but it will be investigated. I know that many of you are also waiting for the names of the players.

Stamp view

Another stamp view of Hydra. On the other side of the water you see Spiros Kriezis house.

The observant reader may notice some dirty spots on the stamp. The stamp is used, that's why.

Mama Gat

Hydra Ark, the foundation who takes care of animals on this island, had arranged for vets to be here for some days. They have neutered cats and dogs and given them injections, looking after them. We managed to get them to take care of the white stray cat that's around our house, she has now been sterilized and they treated her ears. She will now have a better life, not having kittens several times per year she can concentrate on her own wellbeing.

Bravo Hydra Ark and thanks to Jennifer who helped out with everything.

Åsne-donkey

This is the donkey that is ALWAYS standing just at the back of our house, he stirs up a lot of dust and has his own peculiar sounds - he is sweet though and William's cousin Fanny calls him the Åsne-Donkey (not translateable).

Cat memory

The stray cat that hangs around our house showed up again, seems like she remembers me from the summer.

When she had a kitten in the summer I fed her some canned food and now when I offered her some dried cat food she didn't even touch it but followed me straight back into the kitchen and the look on her sweet white cat face said:

"So, we are running out of the canned stuff, are we?"

Tree proceedings

I have taken the next step in my Eucalyptus project.

I went down to the Mayor's offices inside the old monastery down in the port. I found the nice lady who I had talked to on the phone earlier, and yes, she had received my email. She had already translated it and it was at the mayor's desk for his signature. She didn't need my signature, they would refer to my email and send off the letter to the Environment & Forest Department in Poros later that day.

Everything goes well, so far!

I will not climb the tree but I am on top of this project!

Cat friends

Three years ago Mr. Blue suggested that van Layden should get himself a cat. Harry Van Layden is fond of cats and since he lives alone in his house on a small island it would be great with some company. But he didn't really like the idea, it would be impractical for him, he said.

Today when Blue came to visit, van Layden was outside feeding his cats Fluffie, Bumblebee, Foxie, Lillen and Ben.

Blue and van Layden then had to sneak into the house because a couple of the cats wanted to come along.

Three years ago when Mr. Blue suggested he should get himself a cat, van Layden was hesitant because it would be a lot of problems.

Maybe he was right?

Oranges changing color

The oranges have changed from green to their yellow/orange color; in two months' time they will be sweet and ready to eat. Now they are perfect to slice and use to top up your ice-cold Ivy Soda.

Report on the giant tree

There has been an enormous response to my earlier post about the Eucalyptus tree, the dry branches and the dangers for people and animals. I even had a phone call down here to Greece where someone was asking for a picture of the tree.

So here below a newly taken photo of the high tree; I would estimate the height to be 30 meters.

Green fingers & green lemons

This tree was planted in the spring and it's a really fine lemon tree. Look at the first lemon!

The Eucalyptus Tree project

The Huge tree behind our house is beautiful and gives a healthy good air and keep our garden in the shade but there are some old and dry branches that could fall down in the heavy wind. So phone call to the Dimarcho, the Mayor, this morning, followed by an email explaining the details (the dangers for people and animals). Translation will follow and I will go to the Dimos office to sign the application to be sent to Poros, the next island, where the Area Head Office will decide if this can be done. Probably it will be OK and someone else than me will have to climb up this enormous tree to saw off some of the branches.
